Dami Im is a South Korean born singer who shot to stardom after winning the fifth series of xFactor Australia in 2013.
Born in South Korea in 1989 and migrated to Australia at the age of nine. Im taught herself to sing by listening to and copying well known artists, which also helped her learn English as a second language. At the age of eleven, she was enrolled at the Young Convservatorium of Music program at Griffith University in Queensland Australia.
Learning both piano and violin, Im’s love for music flourished and she won various competitions around the country. She attended John Paul College in Daisy Hill, Queensland, graduating in 2005. Four years later, Im graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Music and proceeded to start teaching music prior to entering the xFactor competition.
Im auditioned for the fifth series of xFactor Australia and was accepted with great enthusiasm. She proceeded to boot camp and with stress levels at an all time high, forgot her lyrics during her rendition of Jolene by Dolly Parton. Im was sent home, only to be called back to competition for home visits in New York after a fellow contestant couldn’t commit.
From there, things went exceptionally well for Im with a total of 6 standing ovations, 5 of which were in a row. Dami barely missed a beat knocking out song after song, sending her all the way to the grand final with fellow contestant Taylor Henderson. After a rather intense ad-break prior to the verdict, Dami Im was announced as the winner of xFactor Australia 2013 and awarded the Sony recording contract.
Im is a practicing Christian and member of the Brisbane Full Gospel Church in Eight Mile Plains, Queensland. She met her now husband Noah Kim, a former Korean military serviceman at church and they were married South Korea in 2012. They both currently live in Diasy Hill, Queensland.
